The new hire process is already cumbersome, expensive and full of potential adverse liabilities. You know that you are supposed to check the legal working status of all new hires, but did you know that you should be checking the U.S. Treasury’s Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control’s (OFAC) list of “specifically designated nationals?”

While you are not required to check this list, employing or dealing with individuals/companies on this list is prohibited. Hiring an individual on this list can put your organization in serious hot water.
The list contains the names of individuals and companies that are believed to have (or have confirmed) ties to terrorist organizations/activities.
