September 22 thru September 28th is Banned Book Week. So what’s banned books got to do with risk? Banning books is a form of censorship and not all books are banned for valid reasons. In 2011, 326 school library books were challenged by parents, religious groups and other persons who took offense to select materials. What’s really sad is that these challenges never get reported to the American Library Association which means that school libraries continue to shrink and education becomes narrower.
If your school has a book that is challenged, you can report your challenge to the American Library Association here
In honor of Banned Book Week, we are giving away one of our three classics every day of Banned Book Week to one lucky winner. Simply leave us a comment below with the title of the book you would like to win.
